The wood can be safely used to reach into the toaster slots to pull out the English muffin, and the magnet is placed perfectlyl to cling to the side of a range hood.
This is one of the few gadgets for which I'll make room in my kitchen.

(More customer reviews)I didn't even know there was supposed to be a magnet in the tongs until I read the other review. I just bought mine and they must have taken it out. Anyways, mine work great. I'm constantly having to unplug my toaster and use a fork to get the toast out, so I bought these. I never knew I would be so thankful for a little gadget. They really do work! Not perfectly, but they work and for the price, I'll definitely get my use out of them!

(More customer reviews)You may be thinking what I originally was thinking - could someone explain to me why there'd be bamboo tongs in the kitchen items? That was before my family decided they would eat English muffins on an almost daily basis.
The first time you see your child (or hubby!) trying to fish their muffin out of the toaster with a fork - with the toaster still plugged in - it'll hit you...oh yeah - toast tongs keep your family from getting electrocuted! Even once I got everyone conditioned to NOT fishing anything out while the toaster was plugged in, they were usually too lazy to unplug and plug back in - so they'd bounce the lever and try to 'catch' the muffin. Over and over. And over, and over.
My husband, whose newest food addition is Ego waffles and pancakes, was actually the worst.
So back to the tongs. I didn't give them 5 stars because they're just wooden tongs. But they definitely do the job they were intented to do. No fear of electrocution. No bouncing. No flinging of crumbs during the bouncing. Just easily removing items from toaster without burning fingers. Simple.

Harold Import 43211 Bamboo Toast Tong 6.5in Review

(More customer reviews)I have purchased two of these bamboo toast tongs. The first one had a bad seam at the top and after some use and tossing in the dishwasher over-and-over, ultimately broke. The second pair, however, has been with me for about a decade. Not bad for something under $3.00, right?! As an added bonus, no one has been electrocuted because the tongs are handier than a fork (and less conductive!). Isn't that really why we are looking at toaster tongs?! One of those things (like a pickle fork) that a person never thinks to buy, but once you have it, it's used daily. Makes a nice hostess gift with a loaf of homemade bread and jar of jam. Good thing for kids who are starting to practice skills in the kitchen - and learning to safely use of appliances. (Would have given a 5 if the first one hadn't broken.)
